10 things ‘’Cortana’’ can do in your Windows phone 8.1. Don’t miss out the 10th feature.

Microsoft recently launched 8.1 update for windows phone 8.1 and out of many new features added the one which stands out is the virtual assistant of windows phone  ''Cortana''.

Let’s see the top 10 things that Cortana can do:

 

1.      Navigating quickly to places.

Do u visit a place often?

Then just ad that place to your favorites and ask Cortana to drive. For example you can just say ‘’drive to office’’ if office is included and that will directly take you to navigation page.

2.      Pinning Cortana to start screen:

When you launch Cortana from start screen instead of the search button then it will tell you latest news, calendar appointments and so on. The tile is transparent and the pulsating Cortana circle is awesome.

3.      Pinning websites to Home screen:

You can pin a particular website to home screen and Cortana can launch that website as an application and which makes it really user friendly and easy to use by just telling the name of the website.

4.      Music Control :

Just say ‘’change’’ while playing music and Cortana will automatically switch to other song.

5.      Appointments and Alarm :

If you have an appointment scheduled and you want to edit it then just tell Cortana to ‘’change the appointment for tomorrow at 12’’ and follow up with the time and the same can be done for alarm as well.

6.      Assign Nick names to your contacts.

You would want to say call my ‘’girlfriend’’ instead of saying ‘’first name’’ ‘’second name’’. Now Cortana can do that for you. Just assign a nick name to any of your contact and use it call them and you can assign 3 nick names per contact.

7.      Find out the details of the song :

If a song is being played around you and you don’t know the details of that song then just say ‘’which song is this’’ and Cortana will detect and tell you the details about the song.

8.      Controlling Wi-Fi on demand :

Now you can control your Wi-Fi from Cortana just give her the command ‘’turn on Wi-Fi’’ or vice versa and Wi-Fi turns on for you.

9.      Set reminder while on call :

Now you can set a reminder for the time when you will speaking to a specific person. For example you can tell Cortana to remind you to wish your girlfriend happy birthday when next time you talk to her. And when u speak to your girlfriend then Cortana will remind you to wish your girlfriend. This is an excellent feature and of great use.

10.  Location based reminders :

Do u want to be get reminded of paying the bill once you reach home or to pick up kids from school after work or to make an important call once you reach office. Now all this is possible with Cortana using location based reminders. And as soon as you reach that desired location a pop-up will flash on your device reminding of the work to be done.

Cortana can do a lot more of stuff and all the basic things are of course included it is very quirky and will also sing for you or share a joke with you. In my opinion it is the best virtual assistant in the market today.
